Beloved Trinity

We are the body of Christ – each and every one of us. That’s the core of where we start. What we are seeing right now is an increasing awareness that we are not where we want to be. - Tra Walker, committee member

Beloved Trinity is a layperson-led group within Holy Trinity Parish that seeks to live into our baptismal vows by engaging our church and community in better discerning the whole Body of Christ, particularly in our Christian response to systemic racism.

This week, the Georgia House of Representatives introduced a sweeping bill that would restrict voting access across the state. This legislation further silences voices that have been marginalized in our democracy for far too long. Click on our newsletter to learn how you can help!

An Episcopal Moment in Black History

Dr. Verna Josephine Dozier (1917-2006) was an English teacher, school administrator, Christian educator, and theologian who changed the way Episcopalians learn and use scripture in our lives. She is best known today for her national leadership in Christian formation and for empowering the ministry of the laity. For her work in this space, she received honorary doctorates from both the University of the South and Virginia Theological Seminary. One of her best-loved quotes is, "The important question to ask is not, 'What do you believe?' but 'What difference does it make that you believe?'" Click here to read more about her.

Beloved Trinity has two primary paths for this work:

  1. Formation: engaging in discussion, reading, and learning within our church to help us live more fully into our baptismal call as Christians.
  2. Activism: engaging with our community (neighborhood, city, state, and country) to advocate for justice and peace among all people.

Within activism, we have discerned three focus points at this time: demilitarizing the police, anti-lynching legislation, and voting rights.

As part of this work, we value:

  • Measurable action, rooted in our faith
  • A spirit of compassion, humility, and respect for the dignity of every human being
  • Going beyond “polite Christianity” and building deep, formative, authentic community

About our name: We seek Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision of Beloved Community here at Holy Trinity; hence, Beloved Trinity.

"Now is the time to stand with the people of color within your communities, amplify their voices, and take action! That action, for Holy Trinity Parish, begins with simple signage “BLACK LIVES MATTER TO GOD; BLACK LIVES MATTER TO US”. To see how you can get involved with the holy work being done by the Beloved Trinity, please contact us using the below contact information." - Roger Carter, Committee Member

Get Involved

We would love to have you join us. To get involved in our work, please fill out this form and a committee member will be in touch with you.

We want to be a part of building the future in this church. As a committee we will seek ways to use the resources available through the Absalom Jones Center for Racial Healing. We will seek opportunities for spiritual formation and learning guided by the Word of God, and then take these learnings outside the church walls into Spirit-filled action, advocacy, and activism. - Peter Gross, committee member

Holy Trinity Parish is part of 109 worshiping communities across middle and north Georgia, and part of a worldwide expression of Christianity known as the Anglican Communion. One of our hallmarks is that we find our unity in our common prayer and worship, not in our common thought or belief. When we gather to pray, we join in ancient practices designed to shape our lives to be more like Christ’s. We hear God’s word, pray for the world, confess our sins, receive forgiveness, be at peace with one another, and celebrate our unity with God and one another in Holy Communion.

Welcome Is there a place for me here? Worship Families

Welcome to Holy Trinity Parish!

Welcome to this place of prayer, service, and belonging. Whether you are looking for a church home or just looking for a place today to slip in quietly and worship God, we are glad you are here.

We know that the church is not the building in which we worship – but the people who worship and share God’s love with the world.

Philippians 4:7 “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Discover how we are being the church in new and exciting ways!

In a word, yes.

We at Holy Trinity Parish give thanks to God for the gift of spiritual maturity in our leadership. Spiritual maturity means we are able to focus on the work God gives us to do in the world. It means we are able to welcome new people, new experiences, and new challenges without fear or anxiety. It means we welcome diversity as a gift from God. You’ll find a richness here, with people trying to love God and one another all across the age and economic spectrums, and all across the political and cultural spectrums, too. You’ll find people who know the ancient rhythms of our worship by heart, people who are coming from other expressions of Christianity, and people who have little or no experience with Church.

Sunday Worship

8 a.m. Rite I in Chapel

10:30 a.m. Rite II with music in Nave and streaming on our YouTube Channel and facebook live.

When we gather for worship, we strive to glorify God with beautiful music, intentional silence, and words of both comfort and challenge. We also strive in our worship to welcome and include people of all ages and capabilities: people who wiggle and make noise, people whose cell phones go off, people who nod off during the sermon, people who can’t quite sing on key, and people who are so busy through the week that they struggle to “be still and know that you are God.”

If you are bringing young children to our worship, THANK YOU! and we challenge you to try to engage them in the holy drama of worship: teach them our prayers and how to hold a hymnal, show them when to stand or kneel, and use our worship bags to give busy hands something to do. Or if it is better for you or your children that they be in our nursery, it is professionally staffed from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. worship is over, and it is located on the main floor next to the office reception area.

The faithful giving of all our members enables our ministries and our life together. Each week, we are nurtured in word and sacrament. We are called by God to care for those who are ill or hurting, and welcome all those searching for a community of faith.

We try to be a generous parish. Although giving levels vary in the congregation, all of us are asked to give in a way that reflects our commitment to living a generous life. I invite you to prayerfully consider how you might live life more generously.
